Word and Breath (Wordless Chronicles, #1)

Word and Breath (Wordless Chronicles, #1) - Susannah Noel This book was mostly OK, and a quick read, but I admit I expected more from what was an exciting premise.

I think the story could've benefitted from more development. For instance, while the world depicted in it seemed interesting, it lacked that little something that would've made it appear like a real dystopia for me; as a result, it remained a bland backdrop. Same with the characters, who went about their business without leaving me much of an impression. I couldn't really connect with them (actually, the one who seemed most interesting to me died...). And let's not start about the love triangle that wasn't really one.

Perhaps the biggest problem for me was the narrative: it told a lot about the characters and setting, and didn't allow me to get a proper feeling about them, if this makes sense. As a result, I remained pretty indifferent most of the way.
