Good ideas, and I really liked the futuristic alternate worlds, but the bloated romance killed it for me in the end. I was on board for revenge, for discovering who exactly Paul was, for shady plots and revelations, for science!, for twists and turns (most of which I actually guessed long before they happened), including the part where Marguerite ends up in a technologically backwards Russia where the Romanovs are still in power (all the possibilities! For instance, asassination attempts! Or a revolution 100 years later! I couldn't care less otherwise about Marguerite as a princess). Alas, the romance bogged it down, and reduced the potential for more varied toying with other dimensions. Too bad.
